Welcome To Our Club
West Hampstead Arts Club is a beautiful 100 Capacity speakeasy style club devoted to culture, music performance & spoken word.
Why West Hampstead?
Our neighbourhood has a rich musical history …
It’s common knowledge that The Beatles auditioned at Decca studios in Broadhurst Gardens, now the English National Opera premises. The New Years Day ‘62 session didn’t go as well as manager Brian Epstein hoped and resulted in the now infamous rejection: “The Beatles have no future in show business”
Klooks Kleek at West End Lane was a key component of the capital’s 60s burgeoning blues scene. It had an upstairs function room that played host to big name acts including the Rolling Stones and London’s adopted guitar hero Jimi Hendrix. Cream even recorded it's first live album there. Along with Mick, Eric and Jimi, luminaries such as John Mayall and Georgie Fame graced the stage at Klooks.
The Moonlight Club at Broadhurst Gardens hosted early gigs by everyone from Killing Joke to Joy Division, The Specials to The Birthday Party, Altered Images to The Pretenders, U2 to Depeche Mode & Squeeze to ABC.
We have had the pleasure of hosting shows from Sarah Neufeld, Kathryn Williams, Josef Salvat, Ginger Wildheart, Emily Jane White, Steven Wilson, Pamela Des Barres, Mick Wall, Slim Jim Phantom, Glen Matlock, Mike Viola, Clive Langer, Paddy Considine, Joshua Burnside, Ian Prowse, Eric Chenaux, The Polecats, Guana Batz, John Illsley, David Kitt, Riley Downing, Finley Quaye, Dylan LeBlanc, Simon Joyner & Steve Pilgrim to name a few.
We are located in bustling NW6, a thriving area with highly-rated restaurants and bars in North London, we encourage our patrons to come to our neighbourhood ahead of the show and check out the many fantastic restaurants cafés and bars that surround us on Mill Lane.
